Goosanders, RW, 11th Jan.

20 individuals taking a lunch break in a sheltered bay. The males beautiful luminous orange tint is even more striking in today's dull light.

Smew, RW, 11th Jan.

Nice views of 8 Smew, (7 female and a 1st winter male). The top three show the 1st winter male.

Goldeneye's, RW, 11th Jan.

A shame it was such crap light. The group in flight also contains Smew and Tufted Ducks.

Great Crested Grebe, RW, 11th Jan.

A confiding 1st winter. A couple of the photos are cropped versions showing the birds detail better.

Little Owl, RW, 9th Jan.

Sunbathing in the brief late afternoon sun.

Common Gull, Eyebrook, 7th Jan

A dark juvenile/1st winter with very dark wing-coverts.

Peregrine, RW

The female of a pair that terrorized ducks and waders today.

Iceland Gull, Eyebrook, 4th Jan

A brief, one night only adult.

Med Gull, Eyebrook

The regular adult.

Kestrel, Eyebrook

I was standing next to the car watching gulls when this lovely male landed on the grass 3m away and then spent the next 20 minutes feeding on a dead Snipe. The freezing conditions obviously made it more bolder than usual.
