Northern Bullfinches

We spent some instructive time listening to the calls of these pear shaped beauties. The brightness of the males varied, one of them being extremely bright. This particular bird seemed dominant over a paler male and was heard regularly giving the amazing loud toy trumpet calls, a call associated with more eastern? birds, apparently. A female that he had been accompanying flew into the forest carrying nest material and he followed. I watched one of the paler males calling from the Spruce tops, his call being a more nasal "Phyuu-phyuu, similar to a western bird but more powerful.
