4 brilliant weeks spent watching and counting migration with Fundacion Migres but now time to head back up to Extremadura for the last week. The bird migration at the Strait of Gibralter is without doubt one of the most special events in the world and as i found out, its not just about the raptors and storks - the House Sparrow migration was equally exciting. With the naked eye the Strait dosen't look that much of a barrier to birds but the ever present wind and the unforgiving Med/Atlantic seas on either side can create problems for even the largest migrants let alone the thousands of passerines that cross.
