Pallid Harrier

Juvenile male, 11th September. An individual with really well marked underwing coverts.

Underwing coverts of the above bird.

Juvenile male, 12th September.

Juvenile male, 12th September. An individual with thin streaks on it's underparts. This is not unusual on some juveniles at Batumi.

Juvenile female

28th September. A juvenile with poorly marked upperwing coverts. Many Montagu's Harriers are much better marked making this feature unreliable.

Juvenile male, 30th September. Pale eye and light build good ID for male but primary pattern strong like a female.

2nd cy male

2nd cy male, 28th September. Passing close in heavy rain.

Adult female

Adult female with a nylon noose trap attached to her leg. I presume she managed to escape from whatever trap it was but may risk losing a leg now.

Female, 24th September.

Adult female, 24th September. A very warm coloured individual. There is a plainer brown inner secondary which disrupts the barred pattern and is also visible from above. It is possible it could be a 2nd cy. Pallid Harrier moult is quicker than Montagu's but some can still have 1-2 juvenile secondaries when they pass Batumi.

Adult female, 24th September.

Adult female, 27th September. A dark hooded individual.

Adult female, 28th September.
